The George Washington mural is being created by two local Virginia artists: Patrick Kirwin and Christopher Erney. The artists received guidance from the National Park Service and have collected information from many local historical organizations. These two artists have partnered together to work on several projects and each brings his own unique expertise to this project.

Patrick Kirwin is a Trompe L'oeil and mural artist from Arlington, VA. Patrick has taught locally at the Smithsonian, the Corcoran and the Art League of Alexandria. He has also conducted painting classes and workshops across the United States and in Europe. Patrick is one of the founding members of the International Salon, an invitation-only gathering of decorative painters from around the world. In addition, Patrick shows his support for the community through his volunteering work in the award-winning SOHO youth program.

Christopher Erney
is known as a fine-art sculptor with a long resume of design and computer illustration experience. He has taught and conducted sculpture and casting workshops in the U.S. and Europe. Chris is active in the local art scene and has a sculpture studio at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. His clients include: The U.S. Olympic Team, The U.S. Treasury, Potomac Hospital Center, the Mars Corporation as well as many private clients. Chris currently serves on the Alexandria Public Art Committee and participates in a mentorship program.

Together this team has made a point of designing a mural that educates with a pleasing visual design, and includes as much of the local Alexandria history and community as possible in the telling of the life of Washington.

See the mural section for more information about these special design considerations and features.
